CentOS – Install ClamAV

Install ClamAV using yum:

yum install clamav clamd

ClamAV service should be automatically started but this will make sure it is started everytime your server is rebooted:

/etc/init.d/clamd on
chkconfig clamd on
/etc/init.d/clamd start

Update ClamAV virus definitions:


Daily scan/Daily cron job:

Create cron file:

vim /etc/cron.daily/daily_clamav

Add this to using vim (change SCAN_DIR=”/home” to what you want):


/usr/bin/clamscan -i -r $SCAN_DIR >> $LOG_FILE

Make the cron file executable:

chmod +x /etc/cron.daily/daily_clamav
