I am right in the middle of installing vista ultimate full retail on my macbook black. Why vista and not Windows 7? Well i want to make sure that this can be done before i go and buy the Win 7 Full retail.
1. insert full retail disk and restart your mac and hold the ALT button down.
2. Select Windows CD.
3. Go through the setup process.
4. Possible errors :
Vista Installation error Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
Solution :
At the “Where do you want to install Windows?” screen hit Shift+F10 to bring up a command prompt
.
Type “diskpart” and hit enter.
Type “list disk” and hit enter.
Type “select disk x” replacing x with the number of the disk you want to install Windows to.(Typically you will see a * under GPT for the disk you are having a problem installing to.)
Type “clean” and hit enter. (SEE NOTE BELOW!!!!!)
Type “exit” and hit enter.
Close the command prompt window.
Click Refresh in the “Where do you want to install Windows?” screen.
You should now be able to install windows on the disk that was GPT formatted.
***NOTE*** The clean command will destroy ALL data on the disk you run it on!!! This includes any OEM specific hidden recovery partitions etc. Be absolutely SURE there is NOTHING you need to keep on that disk before running any of these commands. Also this typically converts the disk from GPT back to MBR, you may alternativly use the convert command in diskpart.
Another Problem you might encounter after doing the above : windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation
Solution :
At the “Where do you want to install Windows?” screen hit Shift+F10 to bring up a command prompt

Type “diskpart” and hit enter.
Type “list disk” and hit enter.
select partition
Selects the specified partition and gives it focus. If no partition is specified, the select command lists the current partition with focus. You can view the numbers of all partitions on the current disk by using the list partition command.

select volume
Selects the specified volume and shifts the focus to it. If no volume is specified, the select command lists the current volume with focus. You can specify the volume by number, drive letter, or mount point path. On a basic disk, selecting a volume also gives the corresponding partition focus. You can view the numbers of all volumes on the computer by using the list volume command.
